DIRECTOR SALVADOR A. AVES IN BALI, INDONESIA FOR UNFPA, NACCA CONFERENCE


The United Nations Funding for Population Agency UNFPA invited heads of Statistical Offices worldwide for the “Needs Assessment Conference on Census Analysis” in Bali Indonesia on November 23, 24 & 25, 2011. Worldwide, UNFPA works with partners to address the root causes of gender violence and to offer locally appropriate solutions. UNFPA and its partners are supporting women and girls in eradicating violence through diverse initiatives
On November 24, Dr.Salvador A. Aves presented the Topic: “Uncovering The Wealth of Census Data: A Step Towards Breaking Inequalities and Vulnerabilities of Indigenous Population (IP) in the Philippines. The IP’s are the vulnerable to inequality of opportunities of being educated. Such data will serve as basis for the government planners in initiating plans for the upliftment of the educational status of the Indigenous People population in the Philippines.

REGION 10 XU STUDENT GRABBED 3RD PLACE IN 20TH PSQ










A freshman Electronics and Communications Engineering student from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University bested 16 other regional champions to give Zamboanga Peninsula its second national championship trophy in the Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ). The 20th PSQ was held last December 6, 2011 at the Assembly Hall of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in Malate, Manila.

No tie-breaking question was administered to break the tie for second place between Manuel and Sabenecio after applying the contest rule which states that in the event of a tie in the cumulative scores after the last round, the ranking of the contestants will be determined by their scores in the first round. Manuel, who was declared the second placer, got eight points in the first round while Sabenecio, who ranked third, obtained only seven points.
Director Romeo S. Recide of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics and Dr. Mercedes B. Concepcion of the National Academy of Science and Technology served as members. Dr. Jose Ramon G. Albert, Senior Research Fellow of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies served as the quizmaster.

The PSQ is a nationwide search for young statistics whizzes that began in 1992 spearheaded by the National Statistics Office and the Philippine Statistical Association.
