Based on the results of the 2009 Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES) conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO), the average family income and average family expenditures of all Filipino families in Region 10 was 165 thousand pesos and 139 thousand pesos, respectively.
This means that Region 10 populace was able to set aside savings of 26 thousand pesos per year or 15.7 % of the average income. This was presented by NSO 10 Statistician Janith Cabalang-Aves during the Data Dissemination Forum last June 22, 2011 at Grand Caprice Restaurant, Cagayan de Oro City. Aves also revealed that in every P1, 000 income, a large proportion or P377 was spent for food, P82 for housing, P62 for transportation and communication and P62 for education and medical expenses.
According to NSO 10 Regional Director, Dr. Salvador A. Aves, CESO V, the FIES is a vital input in the calculation of critical poverty data necessary to monitor the poverty incidence in the country.
